Triangulate – “Christmas At…” Light Trails

ArtAV are very proud to support Culture Creative again this year, featuring at the Christmas At Light trails once more. For two of the most popular sites we were commissioned by Culture Creative to provide Triangulate; a light prism tunnel that spans 42m. The triangle prism light show was programmed to Mariah Carey's classic Christmas hit 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' bringing that feel good festive spirit to the many visitors of the Christmas At Light Trail.

Conceived, designed and built in house; Triangulate was commissioned for Culture Creative to run over these two sites each year for three year, providing visitors with an incredible immersive sound and light experience, in a covid-safe environment as required in these challenging times.

From the initial idea to programming, ArtAV previsualised Triangulate in design software solutions Blender and Disguise to allow the client to get a clear understanding of exactly what, this was essential as the interactive sculpture would be viewed in a prominent location at each site. A modular design was created to allow for easy transportation and to minimise build time onsite, a crucial factor for a time-limited project.

The Triangulate sculpture itself is made up of nineteen 4m interlocking tube triangles, each fitted with eight 1m high-brightness LED batons, totalling 152m of fully mappable LED lights on each sculpture. That’s 9728 pixels using nearly 30,000 DMX channels! A custom pixel mapped lightshow was designed and created in-house to run alongside the well known festive audio track, providing a feel-good Christmas experience along each light trail.

Installation and De-rig on site was quick and simple thanks to the careful design process. The design allows the customisation of the length of the triangular light tunnel, each Triangulate installed at the two sites was 42m long but they can be combined to make a near-90m long super sculpture!
