Eurovision – Liverpool 2023

Gary Beestone Associates and the BBC contracted our director, Nick Joyce, to work as Systems Manager for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. Taking place in the UK for the first time since 1998 after Katrina and the Waves brought the coveted prize home in 1997. The live final reached 162 million viewers with record breaking online engagement and musical impact.

The event, held at Liverpool’s M&S arena, was hosted on behalf of last year’s winner’s Ukraine and featured one of the entertainment world’s most complex stages with 600 rigging points, 140 tons of steel ground support structure, and 1KM of additional steel truss work being added to the arena.

The event featured 8 miles of cabling for lighting, sound, video and SFX, over 2,000 specialist lighting fixtures, 200 custom staging decks, 950 square metres of staging for the main stage, and 500 square metres of staging for the green room. The lighting for the contest featured 165,000 channels of lighting control, 23,700 individual light sources, and 2500 automated state of the art colour-changing robotic lights.

In his role as Systems Manager, Nick was involved with overseeing Video Systems, Lighting, Audio and SFX elements for the project - from stage build and rehearsals through to the live final.
